The Holidays in hot regions or repeated walks outside can become a real torture for dogs since they are generally victims of parasites there. In recent decades, studies have demonstrated a some increase in the number of ticks and tick-borne diseases in humans and animals. The most well-known disorders in dogs are Lyme disease and babesiosis, serious illnesses caused by blood parasites transmitted by ticks.
There are various non-topical antiparasitic solutions but the Scalibor, innovative protective tape is the best choice in the market. Its particularity: it is formidable when it comes to fighting fleas, ticks, sandfly but also against mosquitoes. Many dog owners have successfully used it to protect against biting insects during summer vacations abroad. The effects last up to twelve (12) months and bring well-being and comfort to your animal. For veterinarians, the Scalibor antiparasitic collar with its triple action and its long duration remains the best option when it comes to canine health.
What is Scalibor, a protective collar for dogs?
The Scalibor pest control collar was designed for the prevention and control of infestations of fleas, ticks, exotic parasites like sandflies and heartworm mosquitoes in dogs.
It keeps fleas away. Fleas are a real plague. It only takes one of these little beasts to end up with a house completely infested with fleas. They feed on blood and their bites lead to lively itching which most of the time take the form of scabs and then quickly become infected causing scratching attacks and hair loss in the dog.
It protects against ticks which are major parasites of the dog. The particularity of ticks lies in that they always cause bites at the stage of larvae or adults, which causes persistent illness in the animal. Very often active between spring and autumn, ticks are more and more present all year round because of climatic changes. They are usually found in green spaces, groves, game parks surrounded by grass looking for a host. Ticks cause serious illnesses for our doggies like Lyme disease, piroplasmosis or ehrlichiosis.
It prevents mosquito bites. Like ticks, they are generally active between spring and fall and proliferate in areas subject to humidity or near waterways. Scientists have shown that they can even grow in a flower pot as long as the water in it is contaminated. During the bite, they can transmit to our dogs the fatal heartworm disease.
It repels sandflies. Sandflies are biting insects, similar to mosquitoes with a smaller size. They are responsible for the parasite Leishmania infantum, vector of the leishmaniasis, a fatal disease for dogs.
The Scalibor simply attaches around your dog's neck to ensure full protection. Its use is exclusively external and it is available in two sizes:
LITTLE DOG Scalibor Collar (S / M) 48 cm for small and medium-sized dogs
BIG DOG Scalibor Collar (L) 65 cm for large dogs
It is important to note that the dog must be over 7 weeks old to wear a pest control collar. Keep in mind that many dog products that contain insecticide are not suitable for puppies. Also, for lasting results, remember to install the Scalibor protective strip on your four-legged friend at least a week before the first contact with an infested area.

HOW TO USE
Scalibor is very simple to use. Only remove the collar from its packaging when you are ready to use it. Clean the protective strip or collar with a damp cloth before application. Check the dog's neck to make sure there are no worrisome lesions. Lay it out Scalibor protective collar around the neck of your best friend and adjust it appropriately. The collar should be worn loosely so that two fingers can fit between the collar and the dog's neck. We therefore recommend that you tighten the band by keeping your two fingers between it and the skin of your pet's neck. Buckle and check that it is securely fastened around your dog's neck. Leave a maximum of 2 inches or 4 cm beyond the loop then cut off any excess. Get rid of excess length by wrapping it in newspaper and putting it in the trash.
Make sure the bracelet touches bare skin without too much hair in between as the active substances then spread through the fat in the skin throughout your dog's body. Older dogs have less skin fat, which means that the active substance can spread on the skin less quickly. Be sure to wash your hands after putting on the collar. It's necessary 1-2 weeks before peak concentration is affected in the skin but the ticks will generally be killed within 48 hours. The collar reaches its full effectiveness after a week, so it is best to attach it a week before exposure to ticks or sandflies. The Scalibor protective strip should be applied at least 2 weeks before the planned exposure period.
Pet living and resting areas should also be treated with appropriate pest control measures to ensure pest control. The Scalibor Protective Band for Dogs can be used in addition to a leash or restraint collar. Only use one Scalibor dog wristband at a time. This collar should be worn continuously. Apply a new collar every 6 months.
Even though the collars are waterproof, also be careful when worn in open water where fish are likely to be. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the product. The dog should wear the Scalibor collar for at least a week before entering a high-risk area.
How does the Scalibor work?
The active ingredients
The BIG DOGS Scalibor collar (65 cm):
Deltamethrin: 1 g
Titanium oxide (E 171): 0,375 g
Excipient QS: 25 g
The Scalibor collar SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED DOGS (48 cm)
Deltamethrin: 0,76 g
Titanium oxide (E 171): 0,285 g
Excipient QS: 19 g
La Scalibor protective strip for dogs, containing deltamethrin insecticide, has been specially formulated using patented insecticide release technology. There is no release by evaporation, no loss of active material and therefore no smell. (Ctenocephalides sp.) present on the dog will be killed and those present in the dog's environment which could infest your animal will be killed. Collar kills ticks for up to 6 months including: Lone Star tick (Amblyomma americanum), the brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus), the American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis) and deer ticks (Ixodes scapularis et Ixodes pacificus) who can wear the Lyme disease. Scalibor Protective Strip for Dogs repels mosquitoes and protects against their bites for up to six months. Finally, the active ingredients it contains are released daily to repel and kill sandflies over a long period of 12 months, or one year.
Make sure the Scalibor stays in contact with your pet's skin as this allows the active ingredients to spread throughout the body, using the sebum produced by the skin. Make sure there is not too much hair between the collar and the skin as this can negatively affect the performance of the collar. The level of sebum in the skin of older dogs is lower than in younger dogs, which means that the delivery of the active ingredient in Scalibor might be less efficient. Although this may slow the rate of distribution, ticks will still be killed within 48 hours.
The operation of the Scalibor can be summed up in three points:
- A repellent effect for possible attacks : the parasite stays at a distance, does not land on the host or leaves it instantly.
- An anti feeding and knock-down effect for the parasites that could have lodged: the parasite is unable to bite and suck the blood of its host. He then remains paralyzed.
- A definitive lethal effect: the parasite is killed.
Duration of action
The Scalibor protective strip for dogs offers complete protection for your best friend. It prevents tick infestations: Ixodes ricinus et rhipicephalus sanguineus for 5 to 6 months. It fights blood-sucking sandflies (Phlebotomus perniciosus) for 5-6 months and has a strong repellent effect on adult mosquitoes (Culex pipiens) for 6 months.
It takes about a week for the necklace to achieve full functionality. For this reason, it is advisable to put the protective strip on your dog a week before exposing him to areas populated by ticks. Ticks may cross the protective barrier created by the band, especially in areas with high tick populations. For 100% effectiveness, it is very important that you check your dog for ticks daily and get rid of them properly by setting up a treatment for all infested surfaces in the house. In addition, remember to update his vaccination record.
Interactions with other treatments
It is strongly recommended not to use Scalibor in combination with other ectoparasites containing organophosphates. Attachment of individual ticks or individual bites by sandflies or mosquitoes may occur. If in doubt and to avoid a potential overdose, consult your usual veterinarian before purchasing a Scalibor.
Can the Scalibor collar get wet?
Water will not affect the effectiveness of the collar or the protection of the animal. If the dog is going swimming or is in the rain, there is no need to remove the collar. THE Scalibor collar is waterproof and effective even when your dog is wet. The collar contains deltamethrin, which is released in the lipid layer of the dog's epidermis. This layer is water resistant, giving the product a longer protective action. However, some shampoos can remove the lipid layer of the epidermis, including deltamethrin.
Your dog will no longer be protected the week following the bath. We we therefore recommend using shampoos which do not destroy the lipid layer and maintain the effectiveness of the collar. In addition, since the active substance deltamethrin in the collar is very harmful to fish and other aquatic organisms, it is desirable not to wear the collar while swimming.
Is the Scalibor Collar Safe?
The Scalibor necklace is recognized safe for dogs and humans. To prevent any adverse effects, the Scalibor protective collar should be worn on puppies from seven weeks of age. The band is waterproof so your dog can still swim and walk in the rain. Thanks to the constant friction against fur and skin, the active substance is continuously released. This then spreads through the top layer of the skin.
It doesn't matter if your dog has short or long hair. Protective tape is more effective after about two weeks. It is essential to regularly inspect your dog and change the collar after its action limit for optimal protection. Furthermore, it is important to note that the Scalibor collar cannot be used as a replacement for a classic leash. Its light design favors the installation of a leash for walks. For application to pregnant female dogs, please consult your veterinarian.
Side effects
In very rare cases, the Scalibor produces skin reactions, such as hair loss, redness, itching and skin lesions. Tremors, lethargy have also been reported. If this happens with your dog, the collar should be removed. These symptoms usually disappear within 48 hours. Also, the necklace is harmful if swallowed or absorbed through the skin. It can also cause moderate eye irritation. Do not hesitate to consult your veterinarian as soon as adverse effects appear.
Effects on other pets
While Scalibor is harmless to dogs and humans, it is not to cats. The active ingredient, deltamethrin which acts as an insecticide is toxic to cats and aquatics, especially fish. If cats have close contact with the dog wearing the collar, it can cause “feline permethrin toxicity”.
Precautions of use
Do not open the protective pouch until ready to use and keep it pending opening at room temperature.
Do not wear the Scalibor to puppies under 7 weeks old. Also avoid placing it on dogs with skin lesions or known hypersensitivity to pyrethroids.
Be sure to put the Scalibor out of reach of children so that he does not become their plaything.
